Children in Need Day 2024
Thank you for supporting our Children in Need fundraising! The children, and staff(!), have found brilliant ways to embrace the Children in Need theme for our non-uniform day - we've never seen so many spots!

A huge thank you to those who gave up their time at the weekend to help tidy the school Wildlife Area. Massive progress was made to clear the area and chop back the brambles and ivy around the FTDS shed. Thanks to all the families who helped on Sunday and we hope you enjoyed the morning!
Last week Year 1 had a lovely walk in the sunshine into Royston, to look at geographical features both human and physical. The children pointed out different buildings and landmarks and drew a sketch of what they could see. There was even time for a quick play stop in Priory Gardens before walking back to school.
Thank you to all the grown-ups who accompanied them and to the Year 1 children who behaved beautifully.
In Reception, the topic at the moment is Autumn. This week they have been learning about how flour is made and how a windmill works. To support their learning and to help the children develop kneading and pinching skills, they have been making hedgehog bread rolls.
We think they look fantastic, well done Little Tigers and Red Robins!
Last week, Year 4 children used their cutting skills to prepare guacamole and salsa. They used the 'bridge and claw' cutting technique to make sure that the ingredients were in bite sized pieces and combined everything together before tasting the dips with tortilla chips. Delicious!
This week our Reception children have been creating self-portraits. They mixed colours to match skin tone, looked in the mirror to identify their face shapes and the position and colour of their features.
Well done Reception children!
On Thursday we welcomed Rocksteady into School for a fantastic music assembly and workshops with Years 1-4. The children loved joining in with the guitar, keyboard and drum performances of a whole range of pop and rock songs. Some of the children got the chance to play the instruments and even try out being lead singers!
Following the huge success of their first Bouncy Castle Event last week, the Friends of Tannery Drift would like to extend a huge thank you to the parents, carers, children and staff at the school. They raised an incredible £1833.98!
Well done and thank you to the Friends for the hard work they put into organising such a fantastic event!
On Friday we welcomed former Status Quo drummer, Jeff Rich, into school for an amazing drumming workshop. Year 3 and 4 had such a fantastic morning learning all about drumming as well as getting the opportunity to try out a variety of percussion instruments.
Afterwards Years 1-4 were treated to a special performance by Jeff, which was definitely a highlight of the morning. It was absolutely amazing to watch, and we are certain we have some budding drummers feeling inspired by the performance.
This was followed by a session where Year 1 and 2 got to join in playing the instruments as well and everyone had a wonderful time creating rhythms together.
Thank you to Miss Seymour for organising such a great experience for the children, and, of course, to Jeff, for such an amazing morning.
Jeff loved the enthusiasm of the children and left us this message:
“What fantastic children! They all sat and listened extremely well...a credit to the school”.
We are delighted to say that Tannery Drift has been awarded the Platinum School Games Mark, the highest standard that can be achieved, for the second year running.
This has been awarded in recognition of consistently delivering a high standard of physical education which is extremely varied, inclusive and engaging for all children. Thank you to Miss Watts for being such an inspirational PE lead.
We continue to promote exercise and sport as a way of improving both physical and mental health, whilst encouraging children to engage and build social skills.
