Dance

Dance is an integral part of our PE curriculum and taught across all year groups in the school to develop children’s understanding of movement, sequence, dynamics, levels and balance. Elements of individual and group choreography are embedded into high quality lessons that encourage children to be creative and observe and reflect on their own work and that of others. Many elements are linked to class topics as well as encompassing different cultures through dance.

Additional opportunities are used throughout the year to broaden the children’s experience of dance including traditional Maypole dancing in spring, participating in national dance events, dance festivals and class workshops that are led by visiting professionals. We have recently enjoyed a Commonwealth Games themed dance day and a sponsored dance-a-thon event. We also have regular opportunities for creative dance and movement set up by our sports leaders at lunch times and extra-curricular dance clubs, including ballet.
