Pelicans

Welcome to Pelicans! Our class teacher is Miss Johnson and our teaching assistant is Miss Fenton.
We are very much looking forward to our first topic which will be dinosaurs. We will use stories to explore rhyme and syllables, as well as focusing on our own characteristics and emotions, incorporating many areas of the curriculum such as PSHE, History, Science and Art.
Our classroom environment offers continuous learning opportunities during the day through play. We utilise the areas of construction, small world, investigation, creative and mark making every day to consolidate learning, develop new skills and to challenge ourselves. We work with a purpose at all times in Year 1, persevere when trying something new and strive to do our best.
We use a learning cycle to promote pride and reflection in our work, always celebrating our achievements with each other (see diagram below).

We are fortunate to have an outdoor area in Year 1 which we share with Owl class. Here, we can use our imagination in the mud kitchen, develop maths concepts, hunt for signs of nature in our flower beds and bug hotel, as well as act out our ideas in the deconstructed role play area.
Below are a few photos of the different areas of the environment in Pelicans for you to see!
