French

Learning a foreign language is a vital part of an enriched and broad curriculum. It promotes and develops many skills, including speaking and listening. All the children in Key Stage 2 learn French, using ICT to lead enjoyable and engaging lessons. We follow the strands set out in the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages. Children are taught the progressive skills of Oracy (speaking and listening), Literacy (reading and writing) and Intercultural Understanding.

From Year 3, children have a weekly French lesson. As well as teaching new vocabulary, songs and rhymes are an integral and enjoyable part of our work. We learn songs to help us remember how to meet and greet people, to talk about our family, pets and likes and dislikes, to describe clothes and colours and much more!

One of our favourite songs is ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!

Tête, épaules, genoux et pieds, genoux et pieds

Tête, épaules, genoux et pieds, genoux et pieds,

Les yeux, le nez, la bouche, les Oreilles,

Tête, épaules, genoux et pieds, genoux et pieds
