Geography

The teaching and learning of Geography at Tannery Drift First School is rich and relevant. Geography is taught in a cross-curricular way with links made through art, dance, ICT, role-play and English.

In the Early Years children learn about Geography under the heading ‘Understanding the World’. They think about people from different cultures and places, using first hand experiences.

Pupils in Key Stage 1 develop knowledge about the world, the United Kingdom and their locality. They enjoy finding out about their local environment and comparing this to other countries and cultures. In Key Stage 1 children are given opportunities to develop their enquiry skills both inside and outside the classroom.

In Key Stage 2 pupils extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom and Europe, North and South America. They investigate environments, people and places and begin to explore similarities and differences from their findings. They also explore human and physical Geography and the impacts they have on the world.
