PE

At Tannery Drift First School we value the importance of a healthy lifestyle and therefore strive to engage all pupils in their physical education. We were delighted to be one of the Hertfordshire schools selected to pioneer the Daily Mile in May 2016 and we have now incorporated this into our school curriculum. We are proud to share our many sporting achievements, including our recent School Games Gold Level Kitemark 2018/19 accreditation.

PE teaching consistently ensures that all our pupils have a positive, confident and committed attitude towards their physical education. Through carefully planned teaching sessions that follow the National Curriculum we enable children to make excellent progress in their physical development and experience a range of sports to fuel their enthusiasm. Children are always encouraged to uphold good sportsmanship at all times whether they are representing themselves, their team or the school.

We have a good sized hall equipped with climbing frames, ropes, agility apparatus and benches. We also have a very well resourced PE storage area with an extensive range of equipment for teaching sessions, outdoor playground games, gymnastics and dance. Teaching is planned across the Key Stages to ensure essential skills are taught in games, athletics, swimming, outdoor activities, gymnastics and dance.

Tannery Drift is delighted to be part of the School Sports Partnership, and with their support we are able to organise for professional agencies to teach curriculum programmes in cricket, golf and tag rugby as well as extra curricular sessions in tennis and football. We also have regular opportunities to compete in North Herts Cross country championships, summer athletics, schoolympics, KS1/KS2 multi skills festivals, speed stacking festivals and interschool games tournaments. As well as curriculum support the partnership also offers professional development for staff through training courses and subject leader cluster meetings.

At Tannery Drift we offer a wide range of clubs throughout the year that promote perseverance, cooperation and good sportsmanship, as well as fun! These include Tennis, Football, Netball, Speed stacking, Athletics, Rounders, Dance, Fencing and ‘Active’ club
