Art

We are passionate about developing and promoting Art and Design through an enjoyable, creative and cross curricular approach providing a visual, tactile and sensory experience and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. As well as focused high quality teaching we enrich our children’s learning and experiences of Art and Design through a range of opportunities during school time and in after school clubs.

We are also committed to providing opportunities for our pupils to share their abilities and talents both during a range of events in school and in the wider community, such as the Royston Arts Festival, and aim to ensure that all our children enjoy, thrive, succeed and achieve their potential.

Our Art and design curriculum ensures progression through the years allowing children to build on, and develop, a range of skills using varied media and processes including painting, print making, sculpture and collage. The children explore ideas and meanings in the work of famous and local artists, craftspeople and designers. They learn about the diverse roles and functions of art, craft and design in contemporary life, and in different times and cultures. Pupils learn to understand, appreciate and enjoy the visual arts and the power they have to enrich our personal and public lives. Children throughout the school are given the opportunity to work alongside visiting artists to broaden and enrich their understanding of Art and Design.

I just wanted to say how impressed I was having a look at all the artwork on display during Open Classrooms. The range of techniques used was impressive and the creativeness of the children was wonderful to see, especially across the year groups!
