The Arts

Our Arts Mission:

At Tannery Drift First School, our Arts education is central to ensuring our children become well-rounded, creative learners with a respect and understanding of the world around them.

Embracing these “time honoured ways of learning, knowing and expressing” (Hetland, 2000) encourages independent thinking, and the willingness to experiment, explore and develop new ideas.

Our creative curriculum celebrates the wonderful differences and uniqueness of our world, and our learners, giving all children the tools to achieve and succeed.

Artsmark

We are delighted to have been awarded the Artsmark Gold in February 2025, having previously received the accreditation in 2014 and 2019. Artsmark identifies a school or other setting offering a well-planned, quality arts education that supports the cultural development of all students. The assessors of the school's 2025 submission noted that the school has demonstrated "a deep commitment to embedding arts and culture across its curriculum and fostering creativity and engagement among pupils and the wider community."

The Arts Award

Tannery Drift is an accredited Arts Award Assessment Centre and offers all pupils the opportunity to complete an innovative programme of Arts education from Nursery through to Year 4.
