History

We aim to support children in becoming inquisitive historians who have both a good knowledge of local, British and the wider world’s history and the skills to develop a secure chronology and be able to critically analyse and compare events in history.

To do this, we:

  • Provide a broad, challenging and progressive curriculum and, through the use of the engaging and varied lessons, we aim to bring history to life and develop clear narratives with connections and contrasts across time
  • Teach children to gain a secure understanding of historical events, terms and concepts through exploring historical topics, asking meaningful questions and using a range of sources to form and organise their own responses.
  • Build on skills and knowledge previously learnt, to consolidate children’s historical understanding in a wider context. For example, creating more detailed timelines that contain key events learnt in previous topics to help make links.
