Year 3

In Year 3 we have two classes: Badgers are taught by Miss Blake and their teaching assistants are Mrs Paul and Mrs Temple-Hill. Penguins are taught by Mrs Jarvis and their teaching assistant is Mrs McQueen.

In Year 3, we become more independent with our learning and take more responsibility for how we achieve. A growth mindset is key. We try not to use the phrase ‘I can’t’ and instead embrace the power of ‘yet’. We believe that mistakes are expected, accepted and corrected, therefore, we use mistakes to help us progress academically and as individuals.

In English, across the year, we will be exploring various different text types including fables, adventure stories and reports. We will also develop our sentence structure and complexity using grammar to become accomplished authors. In Maths, we will be solving difficult problems using our knowledge of place value, formal written methods and our evolving times table understanding, to become the best mathematicians we can.

We have an exciting topic each term where we research and investigate different periods in history and learn about the world around us in geography using our backpack of skills.

We will continue to develop our working scientifically skills and carry out a range of investigations in science over the year, including growing our own flowers to observe.

We have lots of opportunities to develop our creative skills in art and DT. In art, we use different mark making techniques to paint and sketch using different medias. In DT, we use design, make and evaluate a variety of different projects, including pneumatic monsters and breadmaking, to improve our skills.
